On a freezing cold night with a bit of the rain, three crazy people went out for a catch up drink at a casual Thai Bar for a some cheap beer and appetizers.  Since we haven't met for a while, so we decided to go to 'Kub Klam' for a drink and some food to go with a beer.  Also, since Kub Klam's setting and atmosphere is more like a casual Thai bar, we knew that they would let us stayed as long as we wanted (but we need to get out by their closing time).

Kub Klam is a Thai casual bar/restaurant that sorta 'hidden' under one of the apartment at the corner of the Spring Street in the city.  One thing I like about the food here is that they offered the appetizer or what we called Kub Klam.  The word Kub Klam means a type of food that is ordered on the side with alcoholic drink.  You can say it's the drinkers kind of food :).

After looking at the menu, we decided to go with Thai style Beef Jerky ($9.90), Deep fried chicken joints ($9.90)..[yes, chicken joint...more or less like soft bones], Raw prawn salad ($16.90) and Crispy fish salad (market price) [it is a deep fried whole fish and topped with salad].  For drinks, we settled with a jug of house beer ($13.50)...no fancy jelly cocktails this time.

The food came out pretty quick since it was only our table in the whole restaurant.  The Thai beef jerky was marinated fried beef (traditionally it is a marinated sun-dried beef), served with Thai chilli sauce on the side, though the way they made it wasn't like what we get back home, but the taste was pretty good, especially with beer..haha.

Next came deep fried chicken joint, nicely coated with battered, but found some of the pieces were too big and we weren't that keen to eat them.  This dish is a common dish to have with alcoholic drinks.

After couple of drinks, the raw prawns salad came out...there were raw prawns covered with loads of chilli and garlic.  It tasted just like any other Thai salad, spicy, tangy with a bit of fish sauce.  We had to scrap some of the chilli off since we didn't want to get any upset stomach.  Wish they would put more lettuce on the bed of the dish, so at least we have something to help us tackling the chilli.

After getting our mouths burnt with the chilli from the raw prawn salad, the deep fried fish arrived...it was a shame that they didn't have the barramundi today, so we got tilapia instead.  The deep fried fish in Thai style doesn't dry the fish out, just gave the crispiness to the skin and outer layer of the fish. The salad dressing was tasty, spicy and tangy as usual, but one draw back was the apple they put in the salad was roughly cut and they didn't remove the core, so we needed to watch out for the core and seeds while eating it.  Kill the joy of eating the dish without a worry.
