Sweet Indulgence @ Ganache Chocolate

Ganache Chocolate
250 Toorak Road
South Yarra, VIC

It was rather a crazy afternoon that I had before I ended up with whole lot of cakes at Ganache.  Miss P and I wanted to go to L'atelier by Monsieur Truffe but we did not make it in-time due to bad traffic on the way...by the time we reached there, the door was closed.

Since both of us has a massive craving for cakes and we have been wanting to try cakes at Ganache for a while, we pin-pointed our destination.

While Miss P was busy browsing on the cake menu and refused to join the caffeine club of mine, I ordered my usual Latte to enjoy.

Then the moment of truth came...for cake ordering.  Miss P got fired up and ordered 4 cakes for 2 people...the waitress looked surprised when Miss P continued to order the third one...i thought to myself, the waitress's expression was just like when I paid a visit to Chez DrĂ© with Teddy. I couldn't help but smiled back at her and Miss P.

A moment after, our Cake platter arrived with 4 lovely cakes on the long plate.  They all looked very delicious and gave out a calling: "come and eat me...".

Sweet Seduction@ LuxBite

LuxBite
38 Toorak Road
South Yarra, VIC
www.luxbite.com.au

Girls and cakes are hard to separate them apart...  Me and Little T in the cake shop are like kids in mega toy store.  We got mesmerised by all the lovely cakes and patisseries that were hand crafted by the skillful patissiers.  We found a beautifully done cake is like piece of art, it has its own story to tell.

It has been a while since Little T and I have my mind set on going to get my sticky fingers on to LuxBite's cake slices and macarons.  Finally, the day has come, me and my foodie buddy had set our journey to fill our guts full with sweet stuff.  It was a late afternoon and as we aniticipated, the shop was packed with sweet-teeth/ sweet crazy people like us.  The staff told us we were welcomed to do take away or waited if we want a table, so we left our name and number there.  Ten minutes later, a sweet signal was given, we got the table, hoorah! that wasn't a long wait at all.

Inside LuxBite, it was like a sweet heaven, everywhere we looked, there were cakes and colourful macarons, the cafe was filled with happiness from the patrons.  Since we went there quite late afternoon, couple of cake slices were sold out, so we didn't get a chance to try them. But hey, LuxBite still had more cake slices to offer! Since we wanted something out of ordinary, we ordered couple of desserts that weren't found at other cafe, plus couple more of the macarons to try.  Drinks, we settled with a latte ($3.50) and Orchid Vanilla tea ($4.50), glad to know that they used coffee beans from Toby's Estate, made me feel a bit closer to Sydney :).  Orchid Vanilla tea was served in a clear glass cup, when hot water was poured over, you could see the tea slowly infused and created a nice layer and colour.
The cakes showtime had arrived, the two beautiful cakes were served on our table, there were Epic Chocolate Cravings and Supersized Love.  The Epic Chocolate Cravings was a rectangle shaped chocolate cake slice with the hazelnut crust as a based and topped with salted caramel chocolate ball.  The cake was rich and smooth like a really thick dark chocolate mousse, with a crunchy hazelnut base.  The chocolate was slowly melted in the mouth and left the bitterness of dark chocolate linger in the mouth.

Get Sugar high at Burch & Purchese Sweet Studio

Burch & Purchese Sweet Studio
647 Chapel Street
South Yarra, VIC
www.burchandpurchese.com

I have been wanting to pay a visit to Burch & Purchese for quite a while now, I always drive pass the store without knowing that it is a cake shop! Always had it mind that I will drop by next time and it had never happened until today.

Today is Miss P's birthday and I decided to take her to pick her choice of cakes from Burch & Purchese.

We made a trip to Burch & Purchese in the late hour of the afternoon.  The decor in the store is simple but elegant.  They have plenty of products on display and I felt like taking each of them home.  Too bad that Miss P was with me, so I was only allowed to pick few things that I wanted most for now so we could make another trip here again next time.

As I was lost in the moment with the sweet stuff, Miss P made a decision on the cakes that she wanted.  We ended up with 4 individual cakes to take home - Raspberry, champagne, lychee, white chocolate; Banana, caramel, rum; Rhubarb, apple, crumble, cheesecake; Vanilla, pistachio, lemon, green tea.

The first cake we tried was the Vanilla, Pistachio, Lemon, Green tea.  Loved the amount of pistachio they put in, very generous and made this cake base very tasty (and we both are big fan of pistachio).  Though it had lemon cream as one of the component, but the sweetness of white chocolate was quite sharp (we found it was a bit too sweet). The little green tea macaroon on the top was lovely, had matcha taste and was a perfect complement to the cake.

The next piece was the Rhubarb, Apple, Crumble, Cheesecake.  Very sexy looking little cake showcased in a clear plastic tube.  It had 4 layers, caramelised apple at the bottom, next was the custard cheese cake, then malted walnut crumble and lastly, the rhubarb compote jelly with a crown lookalike white chocolate and walnut as a jewel.  It was like a love at first bite with the rhubarb jelly, it had a right tart and refreshing flavour of the rhubarb and the jelly was smooth and soft.  The custard cheese cake was creamy and velvety and caramelised apple tasted more or less like apple sauce with a balance of tartness and sweetness.  Very well balanced in taste for this sexy looking cake, all of the flavour went well together and made us crave for more.
